Meet Our Dedicated Volunteers
We have approximately 30 dedicated volunteers. Most of them do not want their photos posted or any "glory" whatsoever. It was like pulling teeth to get
anyone to appear on this page. We must respect the privacy wishes of our volunteers as much as we would like to showcase them all.
Our volunteers donate their time to Neigh Savers purely for the love of horses and in service to them. Our program is not about riding or trading riding
for cleaning stalls. It's about rehabbing horses and getting them physically and mentally ready for their next assignment in life. If you think you
might have what it takes to join our terrific team, please contact us. Warning: We are an extremely low drama operation. Please know yourself and don't
waste our time -- we do this for free and therefore we want to be able to breathe and live in serenity and peace with one another. Our horses
appreciate it too!
Please note: Our volunteers must now be at least 18 years old to work with the horses.
Rachel Satterfield-Masen
Rachel lives in Walnut Creek, but comes to us from Arkansas by way of Chicago. Rachel first fell in love with horses
at 4 years old when she was put on one by her best friend's dad. She's a horse racing fan to her core.
She is a student of pedigree and is a fine handicapper, even though she's never placed a bet.
Cigar, Curlin, Rachel Alexandra, and Smarty Jones are some of her greatest loves.
She recently came in the top 5 in the country for a Fantasy Derby contest. She's an art consultant in her day job
and an artist when she has the time. She leases an Off the Track Thoroughbred in Martinez to work on her horsemanship skills.
Talia Goshay
There are not enough words to express the gratitude we feel for Talia Goshay and her tireless dedication to Neigh Savers.
Talia comes out every single day to Hossmoor. She turns out the horses, grooms, exercises, feeds supplements and trains the horses.
Talia has been on horses since she was two years old. Her mother took her to Fairyland in Oakland and paid for pony ride. 24 pony rides
later she still didn't want to get off although Mom Sarah had run out of money! Talia continues to improve her horsemanship skills with weekly
lessons at Half Halt Farms with certified trainer Heidi Riddle.
Jessi Lukk
Jessi is a senior at a local high school and has been involved with horses since she was a wee babe.
Her mother Cyndi helps train our rescues and Jessi is always along for the ride. Jessi fell in love with Ymustichasethecat and
started working with him. Jessi knew she couldn't afford a horse of her own however on her 16th birthday Mom Cyndi surprised her by presenting her
the gift of Cat. However, she had a little help as Mr. Michael Mellen of Branjam Stable, who has been paying all of Cat's expenses,
continues as a partial sponsor so Jessi's dream of horse ownership could come true. Cat has blossomed with Jessi and always stands and waits for her.
Julia French
Julia helps us with rehab work, general groundwork and stall maintenance. Julia graduated from Santa Clara high school in 2010.
Between classes at a local junior college and two jobs, Julia still finds time to make the hour long drive to lend a helping hand.
Julia wishes to expand her knowledge of horses and feels that Neigh Savers is the place that will help prepare her for the day when her
dream of owning her horse finally comes true. Thank you Julia!
